In Patient Care

Inpatient  Care

Inpatient  care can be used to assist patients/family/whānau in meeting needs.

Patients may be admitted to Te Rangimarie hospice for any of the following reasons:

  • Symptom management:Short term stays (usually 3 - 5 days) for review of patient's symptoms such as pain, nausea and vomiting.
  • Respite care:Available for short periods of time primarily to allow time out for carers and family/whānau members. This will be for short periods of time. Respite in an aged care facility may be offered if respite in the inpatient facility is not possible.
  • End of life care:If care at home is no longer possible or no longer preferred.

Te Rangimarie Hospice is  located near Taranaki Base Hospital  in New Plymouth and  has 5 bedrooms with ensuites  as well as family and whānau areas.   Te Rangimarie is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and community patients can call at any time for advice and support. Long-term care is not provided at the hospice and other arrangements may need to be considered if a patient is needing longer term care..

Our weekly Day Programme operates at Te Rangimarie.

Best palliative care in the bed the patient is in...

Care is not limited to Te Rangimarie as the Hospice care team provides the best palliative care to the patient in their home, rest home, or hospital setting. Professional guidance and support is provided to healthcare professionals providing palliative care in other facilities.
