PALLIATIVE CARE OPPORTUNITY

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT POSITION

Fixed term by agreement

This is an opportunity for a NZ Registered General Practitioner who has a desire to extend their knowledge and experience in the field of palliative care. You will have the chance to work with Hospice Taranaki’s skilled multi-disciplinary team and gain additional knowledge and experience which will be beneficial in your general practice work. On the job training will be provided by our experienced medical team.

 

Key aspects of the position are:

 

  • 1 to 3 days per week
  • No weekend or On Call required
  • Competitive remuneration offered
  • Term of appointment flexible from a minimum of 3 months.

 

The key responsibilities of the position involve working with our Medical Team Leader and our experienced palliative care nursing team to provide:

 

  • Day to day medical care of patients in Te Rangimarie, Taranaki’s 6 bed hospice.
  • Ensuring community based patient needs are met and liaising with community palliative care nurses.
  • Working with the Hospice Nurse Specialist and hospital staff on palliative care issues.

This appointment would suit an experienced doctor who is keen to expand their knowledge and skills within this rapidly developing specialty. Ability to work within a team is essential.

MEDICAL DIRECTOR

TARANAKI

Hospice Taranaki Inc is seeking a full time (.8FTE minimum) Medical Director to take responsibility for the clinical aspects of its palliative care service. Hospice Taranaki provides a comprehensive palliative care service and is well integrated into the province of Taranaki.

 

The key responsibilities of the position include:

 

  • Day to day medical care of patients in Te Rangimarie, Taranaki’s 6 bed inpatient unit
  • Ensuring full time medical cover for the Hospice and overseeing the medical team
  • Ensuring community based patient needs are met and liaising with community palliative care nurses
  • Providing consultative services to GP’s
  • Providing an advisory service to other health professionals on palliative care
  • Liaison and education of hospice staff, hospital staff and GP’s on palliative care issues

Ideally we are seeking a Palliative Care Specialist or you may be a GP with proven experience in palliative care or studying and/or working in palliative care.
