Great Spud competition 2011

Great news we have our spud and it has gone into well prepped soil and we are looking forward to a "bumper" crop this year! The photo shows our volunteer gardener, John, talking sweetly to our spud as it is covered gentle, but firmly. Grow Hospice Spud grow.

Give it up

Give It Up for Hospice Hospices throughout New Zealand have embarked on a quirky new campaign to raise awareness of Hospice shops. Hospices rely heavily on their shops to help raise much needed funds to ensure the services they provide remain free to patients and their families. It’s the perfect time to clean out your wardrobe, as the sun is shining and summer is almost here. Hospice shops will be delighted to take your designer or top label item off your hands. The ‘Give It Up for Hospice’ campaign has two phases, the first encourages everyone to clean out their wardrobe and donate designer and well known labelled clothing for the Hospice Fashion Collection. Thousands of collection bags are being delivered to workplaces throughout NZ so that staff can bring in a piece of pre-loved designer or top label clothing, jewellery or an accessory to help fill their bag. Alternatively individual donations can be dropped off at your local Hospice shop. Phase two begins on 21 November and this is all about getting into your local Hospice shop to see what they have on offer following the influx of designer and top label donations. There’s bound to be something of interest for all fashion and price conscious women; everyone from those who have grander tastes than their budget will allow; to those who love vintage or retro; to those who just want to create a totally unique style, all of their own. And even better, shopping while knowing you are helping a charity is the ultimate for all women – guilt free shopping! Recent New Zealand’s Next Top Model winner, Brigette Thomas is the face of the campaign which is also being supported by New Zealand singer songwriter Gin Wigmore, who is motivated to get involved through her own family experience using Hospice services. OUR SPECIAL GIVE IT UP SHOP Devon St East next door to Sandwich Extreme almost on the corner of Liardt & Devon 10am - 4pm Monday 21st - Friday 25th November or visit Hawera or the Stratford Shops. Congratulations to Barbara Henderson-Olsen and her team at the Bach on Breakwater Cafe and Bar for raising over $5000. Hosting a dinner; "pay what you think the meal is worth" evening, the extremely popular concept is very successful with the patrons. Thank you to the diners, management, staff and the sponsors.
